The death of Pilot Williamson, which was not unexpected, has removed one of the oldest members of the early pilot service of this State. After considerable seafaring experience, the deceased joined the Queensland Harbours and Rivers Department in 1880, and was stationed at Keppel Bay for some time. Subsequently he was transferred to the position of pilot at Mackay, and held that position until twelve years ago, when he retired. Since then he has been living in Mackay privately. The late pilot was enthusiastic to the work of providing Mackay with a harbour, and had very pronounced views on what he believed to be the solution of the somewhat difficult problem. He contributed several lucid articles to the local press on the subject. During late years his sight failed, but his health on the main was remarkably good, for one who had reached the advanced age ot 82 years. Deceased had a family of five children, namely, the late Mrs T. Cherry, Mesdames Crisp, McCreath (Townsville), and Vldulich, and Mr J. Williamson, Harbourmaster at Townsville. The funeral took place on Monday, and was largely attended by a representative gathering which included members of the Temple Masonic Lodge, and members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. The Rev. R. Bardon, B.A., conducted the Presbyterian burial service, and the services of the lodges represented were read by Mr F. H. Perkins.
